Working in the cannabis industry has, at times, felt like I was riding a rollercoaster driven by a four-year-old up way past his bedtime. Unpredictable, terrifying, always on the move and a heck of a lot of fun. In the last two and a half years that I have worked in cannabis packaging, I have met with CEOs of agriculture firms from other continents and viewed some of the most exciting and creative (forgive the pun) branding I have ever seen. In addition, I have been exposed to many interesting cannabis-related products.
That all being said, even though the cannabis industry has grown by leaps and bounds, some classic cannabis products and habits have stayed popular, namely pre-rolls.
The History of Pre-Rolls
When I think of pre-rolls I think of two things. One, my conservative mother taking a tiny puff from a “joint” that was shared with her during her first trip to Paris in the 60s while riding on the back of a Triumph motorcycle. And two, “hippies” at Woodstock dancing around listening to the heart felt rock of the era. The target market for cannabis is no longer exclusively these hippies or straight- laced preppies who secretly dabble. The cannabis industry of today has created an entirely new pre-roll culture that many types of people identify with and has given cannabis enthusiasts an array of products to choose from.
According to BDS Analytics, in the state of California (the world’s 6thlargest economy), pre-roll sales have grown 72% since January 2018. Arizona has seen a growth in pre-rolls of 4% since Jan 2018. And in Oregon, pre-rolls have grown 11% since November 2018. The bottom line, pre-roll manufacturing and consumption are on the rise.
Now folks, the pre-rolls of today are not nearly the same as those your parents snuck into parties at the Moon Tower. No sirree Bob. The pre-rolls today are meant to evoke a specific feeling (productivity, relaxation, or love) and are specifically designed for an exact amount of THC and or CBD. Pre-rolls range from tiny one hit gems to huge multi-gram behemoths that would scare advanced marijuana connoisseurs. There are high end pre-rolls and pre-rolls that are more reasonably priced. Pre-rolls can also be purchased as singles or multipacks.
CRATIV Launches Pre-Roll Packaging
Why so much talk today about pre-rolls? Because CRATIV has designed a product specifically for pre-rolls! Our CRATIV Slim has been designed with pre-rolls in mind. The low-profile case is reminiscent of a cigarette case from the 1960s and can fit discretely into most pockets. The dimensions of this pre-roll packaging are 3.75” x 2.5” x .5. making an ideal solution for a pack of 2, 3, 5 or even 7 pre-rolls!
Wait! Are you thinking, yes, the CRATIV Slim is an ideal solution for pre-rolls, but I am concerned about my pre-rolls moving around too much in the case? We can help with that too! CRATIV has recently partnered with a paper company to create pre-roll inserts that fit in CRATIV Original and Slim cannabis packaging! These pre-roll inserts currently come in black and white. Additional colors can be discussed if you are looking for a custom solution for your brand.
Will your pre-rolls fit in the CRATIV case? What do these “inserts” look like? We would be more than happy to send you a sample so that you can try our cases yourself!
